Carolina Soares

Research Technician

Carolina joined Sonja Hofer’s lab as a Research Technician in September 2022, and is involved in the International Brain Lab (IBL) project, researching decision-making through a visual decision-making task in mice.

Carolina graduated in 2021 from Queen Mary University of London in Biochemistry and then underwent a Masters by Research at the University of Edinburgh in Integrative Neuroscience. Her dissertation project focused on the circuitry of spatial cognition and investigates whether Lateral Entorhinal Cortex and Basolateral Amygdala synaptic inputs converge in the Medial Entorhinal Cortex cells. She carried out patch-clamping and optogenetic manipulations of MEC cells.

Carolina is a science communicator and hosts a neuroscience podcast, Neuroverse, to engage audiences in science and philosophy. Additionally, Carolina's research interests encompass the neural and behavior basis of predictive-coding and decision-making.
