Ivan Voitov

Research Fellow

Ivan Voitov is a Research Fellow in the lab of Prof. Thomas Mrsic-Flogel. His primary focus of investigation is on the function of cortico-cortical loops, with the driving hypothesis that they support the controlled amplification of contextually relevant signals.

Ivan uses in vivo methods of 2-photon calcium imaging and extracellular electrophysiology while the mice perform a behavioural task designed to dynamically engage visual working memory. Optogenetic manipulations and anatomical methods are used in parallel to localize the visuo-motor loops of interest and to demonstrate causality.

Investigations into the function of archetypal structures of the cerebrum, such as cortico-cortical loops, will be used to constrain models of neuronal computation, with the end goal of elucidating the general principles leading to the emergence of behaviour.
