Research & Innovation Fabrication Labs Manager

Martyn Stopps is Research & Innovation FabLab Manager for the SWC. He oversees the analysis of scientific / experimental need and the design and development of novel technology solutions. His aim, to deliver the tools enabling novel neuroscience exploration and discovery.

As a manager, he has overall responsibility for the Innovation and Research lab deliverables and for ensuring the lab remains well placed to meet the evolving demands of the research.  He is passionate about delivering the best forward-thinking solutions, integrating knowledge from the innovation team in collaboration with SWC researchers, leading to engineered designs and subsequent manufacture within the SWC’s advanced manufacturing facility. 

As an engineer, Martyn contributes to system and device development with a holistic approach, explores ideas with his colleagues as like-minded professionals and guides both short and long-term technical direction.

Having qualified as an electronics engineer, he has worked within aerospace, healthcare, and big pharma. Moving into the research sector in 2005, Martyn joined the National Institute for Medical Research and, later, the Francis Crick Institute as a science technology platform head. He joined the SWC in 2016.
