Maja Nowak

Maja graduated from the University of Sussex in 2024 with a BSc in Medical Neuroscience. During her studies, she completed a placement developing a behavioural maze to investigate tactile sensory processing in freely moving mice and later undertook a research project examining the effects of amyloid-beta on glutamate release at synapses.

Alongside and following her degree, Maja worked in histopathology at Brighton Hospital before joining the University of Sussex as a Research Assistant in Eisuke Koya's lab. There, she investigated how reward-associated memories are encoded in neuronal ensembles within the nucleus accumbens and explored sex differences in their role in food-seeking behaviour in mice. Maja joined SWC in July 2026 as a Research Technician supporting the Akrami, Erlich, and Saxe groups.
