Rudy Gelb-Bicknell

Rudy is a PhD student in the SWC/Gatsby Joint PhD Programme, supervised by Tim Behrens and Peter Latham. His research asks how the brain learns structured task representations that make behaviour increasingly efficient and generalisable, and how flexible computations shape those representations during learning. He combines theory and computational modelling with the study of neural population dynamics.

Before starting his PhD in 2025, Rudy worked in Bence Ölveczky’s lab at Harvard. There he used long-term recordings with ultra-flexible electrodes to study how procedural memories consolidate in the dorsolateral striatum. Before that, he spent three years on the Advanced Research Team at Boston Scientific, working on signal processing for cardiac electrophysiology. He holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.
