The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour brings together experimental and theoretical neuroscientists in the heart of London.

Our Vision

Understanding the brain is a formidable scientific challenge of our era. A crucial next step is to integrate emerging knowledge into coherent theories that explain how neural circuits generate behaviour.

Funders & Governance

We are funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and Wellcome and located within UCL and closely associated with the Faculties of Life Sciences and Brain Sciences.

Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit

The Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit (GCNU) is located at the core of the building and has a close working relationship with the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre.

Affiliates

The affiliates programme is currently open, on an invitation-only basis, to London-based neuroscientists whose work particularly aligns with that of one or several SWC Group Leaders.

The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre building was designed by Ian Ritchie Architects with Arup engineers and was officially opened in May 2016.
