Jennifer Aniston neurons: key to episodic memories?

It is captivating to imagine neurons that only respond to images or written references to Jennifer Aniston, and not to any other actress. These so-called “Jennifer Aniston neurons” or “concept cells” were first discovered in 2005, and since then researchers have been studying these cells further. In this Q&A Professor Florian Mormann shares research and the potential clinical implications for Alzheimer’s.

Autism: could reduced error monitoring be a reliable biomarker?

To understand how the brain responds to feedback, researchers set up a perceptual task for participants and used electroencephalography to measure their brain activity related to an area called the anterior cingulate cortex, which is known to be crucial in dynamic environments. The findings from the study provide insights into differences in updating perceptual priors and testing whether reduced error monitoring could act as a reliable biomarker for autism.
