Mateo  Velez-Fort

Senior Research Fellow

Dr. Mateo Vélez-Fort studies the biophysical, morphological, functional and connectivity properties of deep-layer neurons of the primary visual cortex in mice.  Dr. Vélez-Fort uses a range of experimental approaches in anaesthetised and awake mice, including whole-cell patch clamp recordings, Neuropixels dense silicon probe recordings and Two-Photon Tomography for whole-brain anatomical reconstructions.  With colleagues, he has shown that layer 6 cells of the primary visual cortex comprises two main types of principal cells characterised by distinct biophysical, morphological, functional and connectivity properties and that these cells integrate head-motion information through a cortical circuit that involves, at least in part, the retrosplenial cortex.
