SWC wins Project of the Year

25 May 2017

The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour has been awarded the Project of the Year at the 2017 RICS Awards in London. The winners were announced at a dinner held at the Marriott, Grosvenor Square on 24 May 2017.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors organises this annual contest to celebrate inspirational initiatives in London’s land, property and construction sectors. The highly acclaimed Project of the Year accolade is presented to the scheme that demonstrates overall outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its area.

The SWC also picked up the award for 'Design through Innovation' earlier in the evening.

The judges described the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour as highly rational, very efficient and beautifully detailed. The judges expressed the design to be highly adaptable, but also attractive to the world’s leading scientists to come and work there. They also said that the laboratories are a unique combination of facilities, for theoretical and experimental scientists to work collaboratively, and are the result of intensive research.

As category winner, the SWC will go on to compete against other regional winners at the national RICS Awards Grand Final on 2 November 2017 in London, for the chance to be crowned the overall UK winner in their respective category.
